Sergeant II Katy Paschal is a 22-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). She was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, where she attended California State University, Northridge. As a teenager, she joined the LAPD’s Explorer Program and it was through this program that she began to see the benefits of having mentors. She joined the LAPD in January 2002 and began her patrol career in Hollywood Division before transferring to Van Nuys Division where she spent much of her career. She has worked a variety of assignments as an officer; including patrol, prostitution enforcement detail, vice investigations, juvenile investigations, projects and administrative duties. In July 2013, she became a Senior Lead Officer (SLO) for Van Nuys Division. During this assignment, she worked closely with detectives, specialized units, the City Council and the City Attorney’s Office. She promoted to Sergeant in April 2019 and transferred to North Hollywood Division where she supervised patrol units and officers. As the Officer in Charge of North Hollywood Division’s Senior Lead Office, she was able to use her experience as a SLO to better guide and mentor the officers in the unit and division. She later worked as the Operations-West Bureau Complaint Coordinator where she oversaw (5) patrol divisions and their complaint investigations. She is currently a Sergeant II at the Office of Special Operations. She has been a 22-year member of Los Angeles Women Police Officers and Associates and is currently their Treasurer. She has attended the LAPD Mentorship Training and the FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) Supervisor Leadership Institute training in October 2022. She enjoys helping officers realize their full potential and encouraging them to go after their dreams.
