Bio
Sergeant Kim Gipson was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and attended the University of Southern California (USC). She played collegiate basketball for the Women of Troy and professionally in Spain and China. Kim followed her father’s footsteps and joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in 2007. She competed on LAPD Women’s Basketball Team for 14 years. Due to her reputation at USC, she served as a Student-Athlete Mentor and guided young men and women throughout their collegiate years.
During her 17 years with the LAPD, Sergeant Gipson served Wilshire, Harbor, and Olympic Division as a field patrol officer. She later became a collision investigator for South Traffic Division and West Traffic Division. Her knack for mentorship afforded her the opportunity to instruct recruits at the Training Division and mentor candidates at the Recruitment and Employment Division. She returned to Wilshire Division as a supervisor, and is currently assigned to Professional Standards Bureau.
Sergeant Kim Gipson proudly serves as a Board Member for the Los Angeles Women’s Police Officers and Associates (LAWPOA). She also serves as Chairwoman of M.Y Legacy House Inc., which provides free holistic mental health services to adults.
Sergeant Gipson is passionate about enriching the lives of those around her through service. In her free time, she enjoys dining out, traveling, live theatre, live music, nature hiking, and driving the scenic route.
