Sergeant Trina Bluff has been a member of the Los Angeles Police Department for over 28 years. During her tenure, she has worked a variety of field assignments across three geographical bureaus. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2009 and held assignments in patrol and two separate divisional vice units.
In 2012, Sergeant Bluff was selected to the Internal Affairs Division, where she was assigned to the Central Administrative Investigation Section and Workplace Investigation Section, gaining a better understanding of the complaint and civil litigation process. In 2015, Sergeant Bluff was selected as the first female sergeant in the LAPD Bomb Squad, and then in 2021, she transitioned to the Officer-In-Charge of the Bomb Squad, where she now supervises a unit of twenty-four bomb technicians and supervisors.
Sergeant Bluff is a graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute, the LAPD Leadership program, and the FBI’s Hazardous Devices School. She received her bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Union Institute & University and a master’s degree in Forensic Sciences from Oklahoma State University. She is currently working towards obtaining her Doctor of Forensic Sciences degree from Oklahoma State University.
Sergeant Bluff is a Los Angeles Police Protective League delegate and a member of the department’s peer support group. She is a part-time instructor at the Criminal Justice Training Center at Golden West College, where she teaches critical incidents and terrorism awareness. Sergeant Bluff has a daughter who is a Santa Monica Police Officer and a son who is a member of the United States Air Force. In her free time, Sergeant Bluff loves to travel and is an avid scuba diver. She resides in Valencia, California.
